Portable Beginner Telescope With Tripod, Moonwatcher 70mm, 150x Zoom
Details
The first time you find the moon's craters through an eyepiece instead of a phone screen, it sticks with you. The Moonwatcher pairs a 70mm-aperture refractor tube with a lightweight aluminum tripod, built so kids, first-time stargazers, and weekend campers can go from box to sky in a few minutes — no tools, no fiddly alignment, just a scope that sets up fast and packs back down just as easily.
What makes it work
- 70mm aperture, 300mm focal length — pulls in enough light for bright, sharp views of the moon, planets, and distant terrain.
- Two eyepieces plus a 3x Barlow lens — swap between 10mm and 25mm eyepieces, and stack the Barlow lens for up to roughly 90x magnification (actual power depends on eyepiece and viewing conditions).
- Portable aluminum tripod — light enough to carry to a dark backyard corner or a campsite, sturdy enough to hold the view steady once you're there.
Day or night
It's just as much at home tracking birds and distant landmarks in daylight as it is picking out craters and satellites after dark, so it earns its keep well beyond a single stargazing trip. The included phone attachment lets you line a smartphone camera up with the eyepiece to snap what you're seeing.
Setting it up
- Spread the aluminum tripod legs to full extension and lay the center brace flat.
- Fit the telescope tube onto the tripod, lining up the mounting tab with the slot, then secure it with the knurled knob.
- Screw the aiming control arm into the threaded socket at the rear of the mount.
- Insert the diagonal mirror into the end of the telescope tube.
- Place either the 10mm or 25mm eyepiece into the diagonal mirror.
- Remove the dust cap from the large end of the tube and start observing.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need any tools to set it up?
No — the tripod, tube, and accessories all fit together by hand using the mounting tab, knurled knob, and threaded socket, with a full setup guide included.
Is this suitable for a first-time user or a child?
Yes — it was designed with beginners and kids in mind, with straightforward assembly and clear, bright views that don't require prior astronomy experience.
Can I use it during the day, not just at night?
Yes — the same optics that pull in a sharp view of the moon at night work just as well for daytime terrestrial viewing, like watching wildlife or scenery at a distance.
